Who is YSY?

You See You began its pilot year in 2020-2021 as part of San Diego & Imperial Counties Cal-SOAP (California Student Opportunity & Access Program.) We recruited 9th grade applicants from three San Diego area high schools: Madison High, Morse High and San Diego High. We have now added Crawford, e3 Civic, Lincoln, and SDSCPA to our target schools. We matched students with UCSD college student mentors who answered questions about the college experience. How do I decide on a college? How do I pay for it? Which majors fit which careers? How do I improve my grade in math? How do I participate in community service and build a resume? In 2021-2022, we expanded to additional schools and grade levels. In 2022-2023, we invite any 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who are low-income and/or first generation in their family to attend college, regardless of school. We want to assist students throughout their journey to college with continued free support.

Who is YSY for?

In 2022-2023, we aim to serve 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students from the following high schools: Crawford High, e3 Civic High, Lincoln High, Madison High, Morse High, San Diego High, and San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SDSCPA.) Students who are low-income and/or first-generation college goers are also invited to apply, regardless of their school. Students should apply in September 2022 and regular online mentoring will be available through June 2023. While the application is open to all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students, we will give priority to students who are low-income, first-generation in their families to attend college, or belong to communities that are underrepresented on college campuses. Students should have a 2.5 minimum GPA and commit to participate. Parents must also sign off and Parent University presentations will be made available to parents of You See You students.

How is YSY Structured?

YSY is built for your success. We work on two levels, as a high school program at each of our participating high schools, and as a college volunteer program here at UCSD. The high school club will act as an opportunity for new students to gain knowledge of future careers presented by mentors at the college club level. College mentors will help students with applying to schools, tutoring, mentorships, and much more.

How Much does YSY Cost?

We are very passionate about equity. You See You is FREE and will be 100% online. We want various students, regardless of socioeconomic background, to have access to quality mentoring and tutoring.
